In a latest development a total of 5 policemen have been arrested by CB-CID in Tamil Nadu custodial murder case. Those 5 include, Inspector Sridhar, Sub Inspectors Balakrishnan and Raghu Ganesh, and Constables Muthuraj and Murugan.
“FIRs have been altered to 302 IPC. 12 special teams under IG and SP (CB-CID) are investigating all angles,” Shankar, Inspector General (CB-CID) told NDTV. CB-CID has modified both the FIR’s to include murder charges against two sub-inspectors, two constables and two other individuals.
On 29th June, the case was transferred to CBI, after the magistrate who was appointed to conduct probe in the case, complained that the police officials of that station were not co-operating with the investigation. The court then initiated a case against the police officials for obstructing investigation and for intimidating and abusing the magistrate. A criminal contempt action has been initiated against Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police D Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police C Prathapan and Constable Maharajan.
In a court hearing on Tuesday, the bench observed that the post-mortem report of the father-son, shows that they had suffered grave injuries.
Jeyaraj and Fenix were arrested by the Thoothukudi police for keeping their shop open during the lockdown. They were mercilessly beaten by the policemen in the station. Fenix, 31, died on the night of June 22, while his father, Jeyaraj, 59, took his last breath the next morning.
