Art of Deception

It is the halfhearted, half-baked understanding of religion and its philosophy that breeds intolerance and reveals itself in individual actions which are, for the most part, divisive, hateful and vengeful.

Have been thinking about what has gone wrong with a huge segment of the Indian populace, including the educated Indians! Come to think of it, those who are truly and genuinely religious- or those who are educated but claiming to have no use for religion- come across as egalitarian, accommodating and genuinely secular. On the contrary, it is the halfhearted, half-baked understanding of religion and its philosophy that breeds intolerance and reveals itself in individual actions which are, for the most part, divisive, hateful and vengeful. Whereas Gandhi and Abul Kalam Azad were truly religious and also genuinely secular, the likes of Modi, Advani, Amit Shah and their ideological mentors like Golwalkar while swearing fealty to the cause of Hindus and Hinduism, have hardly gone beyond the theatrics involving the (mis)use of religion in the name of governance. Having all along been busy to advance an agenda that draws blood from their exclusive and divisive brand of communal politics, they have landed the country where it stands right now.

Notwithstanding the onset of the Covid pandemic, the country was already teetering on the precipice involving its track record on a number of counts including especially the unemployment and the growth of its economy which had plummeted to a new low in the last forty year. The latest figures of the GDP having fallen to an abysmally low of about -24% tells its own story.

But why all this! Mainly because of those who had fancied a windfall of fortunes by trading hate for harmony and blood for bonhomie. And that is surely on account of such a poor understanding of Hinduism which they have been using merely as a ploy to create religious frenzy among the Indians with the sole aim to advance a political agenda which is based on demonising and browbeating the underprivileged Indians and the minorities into silence.

It may surely be late, but it not too late for the Indians to wake up and to understand that they are merely being hoodwinked into believing that they and their land are under threat having been usurped by the ‘invaders’ who had come here a long time ago and settled here at the cost of indigenous Indians. That’s not only misleading and even dangerous, but shameless on the part of those who can think and see for themselves the larger picture behind these machinations!
