Bail Granted to Terror Accused Davinder Singh Raises Anguish on Twitter

Reportedly, he still remains in custody for ferrying the militants as it’s a different case being handled by NIA.

J&K police officer Davinder Singh, who was caught accompanying two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in a vehicle bound for Delhi, has been granted bail by a Delhi court in another terror related case.

As the special cell of Delhi police failed to file a chargesheet against him within 90 days from arrest, he was granted bail on 19th June. Reportedly, he still remains in custody for ferrying the militants as it’s a different case being handled by NIA. A statement from NIA for the same came after a lot of people on twitter started questioning the decision of granting bail to someone accused in a terror related case.

Shashi Tharoor tweeted, “We all want to ask “how did the government allow this to happen?” But the real question is “how do we as Indians allow the government to get away with this shameful non-performance?”

A lot of twitter handles showed their anguish on the bail of Davinder Singh. Saket Gokhale, an RTI Activist tweeted, “the @delhipolice conveniently fails to file chargesheet in time against terrorist transporting police officer Davinder Singh & gets bail. The same police however, has been hounding students & a pregnant activist who remain in jail. This is Amit Shah’s dirty Gujarat model.”

Joining in, Prashant Bhushan tweeted, “terrorist ko bail & peaceful protesters ko jail! wah re special police.”

A tweet by Md Asif Khan read, “same Delhi police who invoked anti-terror law on Muslim activists and implicated them in Delhi violence case FAILS to fil charge sheet in terror case. Davinder Singh gets bail while Safoora Zargar is still in jail. ‘secular democratic India’”.
