CRPF to Recruit Transgender in the Force

Central Reserve Police Force says“We fully value the spirit of the order of Hon’ble Supreme Court. CRPF already has a gender-neutral work environment. Because of impending policy guidelines of MHA, we shall make it further compatible as per the need.”

A community whose people were considered as marginalized is now trying to make its way back in the society. Increasingly the transgenders in India are being considered with a sense of equality.  Earlier we have seen the people of the transgender community begging on roads for their living. Lack of nutritious food, clean water, and a substantial lifestyle was their life routine.

However now, the member of this community is getting a chance to connect with mainstream society.  In modern India, members of the transgender community are carving out their own identity.  There are many news coming up about how they are being provided with jobs and are treated equally.

Not long back the Noida Metro Rail Corporation decided to dedicate Noida sector 50’s metro station to the transgender community and now CRPF is ready to recruit transgender’s into it’s force.

A few days back the MHA (Union Ministry of Home Affairs) has asked the paramilitary force for their opinions on recruitment of transgender as officers in the force.  In its reply, Central Reserve Police Force said “We fully value the spirit of the order of Hon’ble Supreme Court. CRPF already has a gender-neutral work environment. Because of impending policy guidelines of MHA, we shall make it further compatible as per the need.”

Before CRPF, the BSF had also sent a similar response to MHA for the recruitment of transgender as officers in the force. As per BSF reply “they are ready to make necessary changes in the force and suggested amendments to recruitment rules for helping transgender people to join the force at Assistant Commandant-level.”

Supreme Court had declared transgender people as the ‘Third Gender’ in its 2014 judgment. Following this, Parliament passed The Transgender Person (Protection of Rights) Act in 2019.

As per an MHA official “The ITBP and SSB are also going to send a positive response. The suggestions are being sought largely to understand how this should be implemented. In that sense, their reply can be varied, but none of the forces are unwilling to do this.”

According to the sources, other forces are also like to respond positively to this issue.
