Everything is Fine Sir: Government Response to Covid-19 and Selective Amnesia

Once upon a time, an army man was going back home from his duty after a long time. During his journey, he met his servant who lived in his house back in the village. The soldier asked the servant how is everything in my house? The servant replied.

Before starting my article I would like to share a short comic story.

Once upon a time, an army man was going back home from his duty after a long time. During his journey, he met his servant who lived in his house back in the village. The soldier asked the servant how is everything in my house? The servant replied.

“Everything is fine sir, but your dog has died because he ate the meat of dead Buffalo.”

“What do you mean by dead buffalo? My buffalo has also died?” The soldier asked in shock.

“Yes sir, your buffalo died because of no food” servant said.

“But I have given you enough money to feed my buffalo.” the soldier inquired.

“Sir, I spent the entire money on your mother’s funeral.” the servant replied.

“It means my mother has also died?” the soldier asked in an angry voice.

“Yes sir, how could she have survived so much pain due to the death of her beloved grandson?” the servant said empathetically.

The soldier fell down on his knees and asked while crying.

“How did it happen?

“How could a two-year-old baby live without a mother?” the servant answered.

“It means my wife has also died?” the soldier asked in utter grief and asked. “Is anything left behind there in my house?

“Yes sir. Besides these little things, everything is fine sir. Sab changa si.” the servant said.

The Soldier fainted.

These days, our country is facing the same scenario. After a lot of destruction due to mismanagement when coronavirus is reaching its culmination and breaking records every day by doubling the number of positive cases of COVID-19. More than Twenty-five lakh people have been quarantined across the country and around one lakh people in hospitals, more than five thousand people have died till now.

Farmers in India are always in distress but this time they are going through the sleepless nights due to the locust attack across the country.  Migrant workers issue is the reflection of poor society and bad leadership that how a large number of people in India are living their life like animals, women are giving birth on the road, people are dying due to hunger.

Misplaced priorities?

In a country where hundreds of tonnes of wheat and rice decomposes in Godowns due to the damp environment, people are starving here. It has been proven that poor labourer lives don’t matter for the government because Indian railways which has the capacity to transport three crore, people, every day seeming incapable. According to the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE) 122 million people have lost their jobs. India comes at 144th position in the world happiness index among 156 countries as per the latest 2020 report. Amphan cyclone has devastated Odisha and West Bengal.

Every corner of our country is in chaos but the ruling party of India is keeping all this catastrophe aside and celebrating their anniversary on the completion of one year Modi government Part 2. The government should be ashamed of themselves at a moment when the whole country is in deep distress the BJP and their allies are in the mood of joy.

Who is responsible?

However, it is all government responsibility but behind the government’s irresponsible behaviour there is a hand of thoughtless people of this country especially the middle class. However, they are also in distress due to joblessness but they are obsessed with the government and accepting Narendra Modi as a God. At a time when you consider somebody as a God, you are incapable of questioning them and then they exploit you. Despite knowing that people are being fooled by the central government they are ignoring and praising the ruling government.

So, I would say that it is an art only BJP has perfected. How to make 1.3 billion people fool by showing their failure as achievements? I think not only BJP but any government at this stage would have been the same.
