Wednesday marks the 18th day in a row, when the fuel prices were hiked. Since June 7, oil companies have been raising the cost of petrol and diesel on a daily basis.
Till 17th consecutive date, there was a hike in the price of petrol but on 18th day however, the price of petrol remained unchanged while the diesel saw an increase of 48 paise. Because of that, this is the first time in forever, that the cost of diesel has surpassed the cost of petrol in the capital.
As of 24th June, 2020, the price of petrol stands at 79.76 per litre while diesel stands at 79.88 per litre in Delhi.
Seeing the continuous increase in the fuel prices, on Wednesday, congress organised a state-wide protest in MP. Senior congress leader Digvijay Singh along with other congress leaders cycled to the residence of Chief minister Shivraj Chauhan in Bhopal.
Digvijay Singh said, “People are already facing difficulties due to coronavirus. The Centre has increased excise duty on the 18th consecutive day. Modi says to turn the crisis into an opportunity. So, he saw an opportunity to earn and increased the price of petrol and diesel”.
A similar protest was also seen Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior against the petrol diesel price hike.
