India has a conviction rate of 27% for rape, a heinous crime where a victim is left with scars not only over the body but over the soul. Nothing has changed in decades if we talk about women’s safety and justice. Not long-ago convicts of Nirbhaya gang rape case were delivered with capital punishment but it has still not changed the situation of a women in India. Women living in the country have to think twice before stepping out of their home after dusk.

According to the NCRB data, 4,15,786 rape cases were reported across India between 2001 and 2017. On average, 67 women were raped every day across the country during these 17 years, or in other words, about three women had been raped every hour and there are those cases as well which were never reported due to the societal pressure or the fear of losing their lives.

A social media rage was triggered when the body of a 17 – year old girl was found on the railway track in an inappropriate condition in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district.  The case is being investigated by Government Railway Police.

P Raju, who is Government Railway Police told the sources, “We have registered a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). As per our preliminary investigation, it seems that the minor has died in a train accident. However, since allegations have been made by the parents, all the evidence and samples were sent for examination and a post-mortem was also conducted. As per instructions from higher officials, we will be transferring the case to the district police.”

Girl’s family have alleged that she had been raped and murdered. On the other hand, the police are denying any rape angle in the whole case.

We proudly blow the trumpet of women empowerment but still lack in protecting our daughters, wives, and mothers. It is not about the way a girl dresses up but it’s about the mindset of people for a woman in our country. The nation has seen many horrific rape cases from ‘Nirbhaya Case’ to ‘Kathua case’, which has brought chills to the spine of people but the veracity is, nothing has changed and these vultures still roam freely.
