Vaccination for Covid-19 in India – To Be or Not To Be

The side effects of vaccination are not well known, and there are genuine apprehensions in many minds or rather most of the minds regarding the same.

Thus at a macro level, the exercise of vaccination is an exercise by an ignorant world, a world that is rather happy with its ignorance even though in peril due to that very ignorance.

The massive vaccination drive to combat Covid-19 rolls out in India on the 16th January, 2021 with much fanfare. It looks like something out of a fairy tale, since the drive is taking place with many relevant and important ifs and buts still remaining unanswered for the common man.

  • The side effects of vaccination are not well known, and there are genuine apprehensions in many minds or rather most of the minds regarding the same.
  • More importantly, the efficacy of the vaccination is in the dark. Even those having conquered the virus once and thus having developed anti-bodies are getting re-infected. If so, no one knows for how much time the vaccination will shield the receiver from the virus even if otherwise effective.
  • Covid-19 is nowhere near being a pandemic in India when the vast population is being planned to be vaccinated in due course. The number of daily infections and deaths have come down to below 20000 and 200 respectively in a population of 1.3 billion plus. But one never knows if there is a resurge round the corner. If so, the effective vaccination could preempt it.

Apart from the above, Covid-19, against which the large scale vaccination is afoot, is still a mystery, with very basic questions remaining unanswered and forgotten. There still are many schools of thought about whether use of mask is good or bad to combat the virus. How the virus spreads? The mother of all questions, that is how and why did virus not spread in major portion of China while spreading in the rest of the world, is conveniently forgotten by all, though about a year ago even many world leaders including American President Trump were asking this question. In answer to this question lied many necessary answers regarding the virus. Thus at a macro level, the exercise of vaccination is an exercise by an ignorant world, a world that is rather happy with its ignorance even though in peril due to that very ignorance.

It is against this background that one will have to take a call whether to get vaccinated or not. I remember that a few months ago, some authority, whether the Health Minister or ICMR had said that they didn’t plan to vaccinate all, but only selectively so that the chain of infection could be broken. That probably could have been a prudent approach, if everything else were fine with the vaccination, but I don’t find anyone talking on these lines now!

Last but not the least, the biggest problem for a common man is how to trust the Establishment and the Media who would like one to be vaccinated! Because they are the same Establishment and Media (restricting ourselves to Indian context here) who are blatantly and nakedly subjecting a vast country of 1.3 billion plus to a 24 x 7 massive fraud and crime through game of Cricket! In fact, this is now a perennial problem for the common man, even though the sea of intellectuals of the country is happy to act as confirmed blind, and the common man remains unaware. Whether one knows it or not, the hard fact remains that the common man today is at the mercy of such a cheat and criminal dispensation.

Given all this, it shall not be an easy decision whether to be or not to be, for getting vaccinated.
